History[ edit ] Cheltenham in Cheltenham stands on the small River Chelt , which rises nearby at Dowdeswell and runs through the town on its way to the Severn. The town was awarded a market charter in Though little remains of its pre-spa history, Cheltenham has been a health and holiday spa town resort since the discovery of mineral springs there in Captain Henry Skillicorne — , is credited with being the first entrepreneur to recognise the opportunity to exploit the mineral springs.
After moving to Cheltenham in , he immediately began improvements intended to attract visitors to his spa. He built a pump to regulate the flow of water and erected an elaborate well-house complete with a ballroom and upstairs billiard room to entertain his customers. The beginnings of Cheltenham’s famous tree-lined promenades and gardens surrounding its spas were first designed by Captain Skillicorne with the help of “wealthy and traveled” friends who understood the value of relaxing avenues.
The beautiful walks and gardens were naturally adorned with sweeping vistas of the countryside. Soon the gentry and nobility from across the county were enticed to come and investigate the beneficial waters of Cheltenham’s market town spa. This house was owned by Alice Liddell’s grandparents, and still contains the mirror, or looking glass, that was purportedly the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s novel Through the Looking-Glass , published in Lee , with the flats of the Cheltenham Racecourse becoming a giant storage depot for countless trucks, jeeps, tanks and artillery pieces.

He has confirmed the release of a collaborative album with vocalist Hannah Rickard, a brand new autobiography written with Mick Wall, and a spoken word UK tour that will see him and Wall tour the country discussing the Quo guitarist’s illustrious career and taking questions from fans. More details are at www. Featuring all brand-new material, and boasting writing credits for Rossi and Rickard as well as Quo stalwart Bob Young, this album has been a true labour of love.
This gripping brand-new book has been created in conjunction with award-winning writer and broadcaster Mick Wall, who has sold more than 1 million books. In this explosive new memoir, the famously indiscreet Rossi reveals the true-life stories behind his unbelievable career. Painfully honest at times, the book covers the glory years, the dark days, the ups and downs of his relationship with the late Rick Parfitt and the real stories behind the creation of some of the greatest rock music of all time.
Expect laughter, revelations, tales involving some of the giants of music, exclusive video clips, snatches of classic tunes and a great night out. It will be live and unscripted, so god knows what could happen! I’ll be taking a guitar along to demonstrate how some of those Quo classics came into being, and hopefully we’ll take a few questions from the audience too. It’s been quite a journey, there’s a lot to share.
