RV Battery Basics: A Beginner’s Guide

My favorite RV-friendly appliances and products:: When you have limited living space you want to make certain that the things you buy or store in your RV are providing some benefit. Storage — How much space is required to store the appliance and does the benefit warrant the space needs? Convenience — Does it save us time and effort? This skillet is great for stir fries, eggs non-stick , pancakes and more. I wish we would have purchased sooner. We use this daily so it usually lives in the bathroom or the kitchen — but is stored in the closet when we travel. When you have only square feet a small heater like this warms your space up in no time. This helps offset the need to run the propane furnace and takes advantage of electrical hook-ups which are often included in the cost of your RV hook-ups. Space heaters can be dangerous read:

Supply pedestals are similar to the hookups at most campsites, typically made with one built-in amp outlet, one amp outlet and one or two amp outlets. Appropriately sized circuit breakers are preinstalled, and some feature a usage meter and a switched light for using the pedestal after dark. They are weatherproof and entirely self-contained, set up so that one amp connection to the pedestal supplies all the outlets with their correct voltages. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the dead-front panel and lift it away, then test that all power is off using your voltage meter to bridge from the live side to the neutral side.

Using Type UF-rated, four-conductor six-gauge wire, connect the two volt hot wires — one black and one red — to the fused screws of the breaker. It does not matter which colored wire is connected to which terminal screw.

Hook-up and RV Camping. The RV hook-up sites at Lake Perris have water, grey water, and electrical hook-ups. Unfortunately, there are no black-water sewer hook-ups, but a dump station located at the campground site has a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill.

I installed septic systems for quite a few years and have seen some weird things people have done with their systems. Installing an RV sewer dump into a home septic system is very easy. Remember sewer lines should not have quick drops because the water will leave the solids if there are any. Large elevation changes should be made with 90 degree drops. One inch of drop in a one hundred foot line is almost overkill, we always tried for no more than a half inch drop per hundred foot, but that is hard to do using plastic line.

Ideally the solids are kept with the liquid and casually float to the septic tank entrance. Connect your RV dump line into the septic system between the house and septic tank, never into the drain field.

Hook Up RV to House

It is likely they are rated for 30 amp circuits. Also, check for an outlet in a utility room which also may have a 30 amp circuit. The circuit breakers in the house should be marked with the rating for each circuit. My house has 20 amp circuits in the living room, family room, hallways and bedrooms, 30 amp circuits in the kitchen, utility room where the washer is, and in the garage. I have 50 amp circuits for my water heater, electric dryer and electric stove.

There are both non-hook-up and RV sites available, and RV sites can feature water, electric and sewer/ (There are several wheelchair accessible sites as well.) I bought a travel trailer this year and have been learning a lot from the school of hard knocks. In this post I want to share some of the mistakes I’ve made with my trailer, as well as mistakes I’ve seen from other RVers as we’ve traveled around.

January 15, Laura H P Great information! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. The ones I see are always inside the house usually in a closet, basement, or crawlspace. Dan Odell I agree with Brad However, at my house in upstate New York, the sewer line clean out is inside under the basement stairs. Campskunk thanks, dan and brad — i had the feeling things were different up North.

Abert One correction, Mike. Some houses do have their septic systems in the front yard, as does ours.

Using A House’s Sewer Clean-Out for RV Dumping

Installing dual RV batteries is fairly simple, but the results could be disastrous if done wrong. If your energy use is limited to a volt lighting system, water pump, refrigerator, CO alarm, volt stereo system, heater, then two group 27 or group 29 deep cycle batteries will probably be enough. If you use a microwave or home theater system, you will probably need a battery bank of Amp hours.

Sep 28,  · RV Hook Up and Panel for Tiny House My plan is to have a RV electrical hook up that will be either 30 amp or 50 amp, that part seems pretty straight forward to me. Where I get a little fuzzy is what panel to do inside the Tiny House.

The Electrical System This section covers what a camper van or RV electrical system does, how it works, how to pick and size the components, and how to build the system. Safety Warning and Disclaimer There are serious safety issues involved with wiring your own system. Doing the system incorrectly can lead to serious consequences down the road.

I want to make it very clear that I am not an electrician, and I take no responsibility whatever for the correctness of the material below — you need to do your own homework! This is a picture showing most of the components for van conversion electrical system. Electrical system for our van conversion. Two systems are described: Overview of an RV Electrical System The diagram below shows the electrical system for our conversion.

July 31, , A few years ago a “neighbor” a few blocks away decided to buy a trailer and rent it to his brother and dumped the sewage into his existing septic system. It worked so well, he decided to buy two more and do the same thing To make a long story short, he overloaded the septic capacity and created a big spill which contaminated a next door neighbor’s well without anyone knowing. Fiinally several people got sick and the county health department did some testing and found the problem.

I’m not saying that any of this will happen in the situation you describe but the regulations are there for a reason and if you go around them, even for the most compelling reasons, you run the risk of causing unintended consequences.

Pin: if they want to hook up your tailgate setup? Installing dual rv is totally different if connected to your rig. Mr. Can help you can connect your rv to your tiny house batteries. Staying in houses can add more electricity at your sewer connection where you would find .

Please be guided accordingly. This article was first drafted in , but after review is absolutely as “current” today as it was when first written. It is likely the most comprehensive review of pre-delivery inspections for taking delivery of any RV, whether new or used, and whether from the factory, a dealer, or through private sale. I realize that most factories put some miles on each coach during the quality control activity, but I want to drive the rest.

I worked as a delivery driver for a while and watched how other delivery drivers work. Most are very good drivers and very responsible with the products, but others are not. I know of a situation where a delivery driver jumped into a new luxury coach, started the generator, turned on both air conditioners, turned the stereo up to db ear damage level and tore out of the lot. He did not hear the new technology awning extend, when it should have stayed in.

This happened because of the windmill type sensor said the there was a 30 mph wind and the factory had wired the controls in reverse. So the automatic controls extended the awning instead of retracting it. The result was that the extended awning took out at least 5 traffic signs and the wood posts that held them. The awning was destroyed and the side of the coach was badly damaged before he got one mile away.

Having difficulty filling the water tank. There appears to be two places to hook up the hose to fill the tank. Which intake do I hook the hose up to? There must be a water shut off valve between the tank and the water pump.

One of those hook ups will be for city water that goes direct to your tap and the other inlet is to fill the on board tank.
